# Auto-Deleveraging (ADL)

Learn what Auto-Deleveraging (ADL) means, how it differs from liquidation and what to check if it affects your position.

Auto-Deleveraging (ADL) is a risk-management process that may reduce or close an open position when the liquidity provider on the other side of the trade needs to lower its exposure.

ADL is **not a liquidation**. It can happen even when your Account Health is healthy.

{% hint style="warning" %}
ADL may close part or all of a profitable or losing position earlier than you planned.
{% endhint %}

## What happens during ADL?

* **Partial ADL** closes part of your position. The remaining size stays open.
* **Full ADL** closes the entire position.
* The closed amount is settled at the ADL execution price.
* Your realized PnL and balances update for the amount that was closed.
* The event appears in Trade History as **ADL Closed**.

## ADL vs. liquidation

|                    | ADL                                         | Liquidation                                        |
| ------------------ | ------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------- |
| **Why it happens** | The liquidity provider reduces its exposure | Your Account Equity falls below Maintenance Margin |
| **Account Health** | Can happen while your account is healthy | Triggered by insufficient Account Health |
| **Result** | Part or all of one position may close | The result depends on the market and margin mode |

## What should I do after an ADL close?

1. Open **Trade History** and find the **ADL Closed** entry.
2. Check whether your position was partially or fully closed.
3. Review the execution price and realized PnL.
4. If part of the position remains open, review its size, margin, liquidation price and any TP/SL orders.
