# Managing VibeCaps Margin

VibeCaps uses isolated margin through virtual accounts. Each virtual account is scoped to one symbol and direction, creating a separate margin bucket for longs and shorts.

Use Manage Margin to add or remove collateral from an existing VibeCaps position without changing the position size.

### What adding margin does

Adding margin moves more USDC from your VibeCaps account balance into the position’s virtual account.

This gives the position more collateral to absorb unrealized losses. As a result, the liquidation price moves farther away from the current market price:

* For a long position, liquidation moves lower.
* For a short position, liquidation moves higher.

Adding margin does **not** increase your position size, change your entry price, or open a new trade. It only increases the collateral supporting the existing position.

### What removing margin does

Removing margin moves available collateral from the position’s virtual account back to your account balance.

This frees up funds, but it reduces the position’s safety buffer. That means the liquidation price moves closer to the current market price, increasing liquidation risk.

Vibe only allows margin to be removed when the position remains sufficiently collateralized after current unrealized PnL, locked margin, and pending locked margin are considered.

### Why this matters

Margin is your position’s cushion. More margin gives the position more room to move against you before liquidation. Less margin gives you more free balance, but less protection.

Use margin management when you want to adjust risk on an existing position without changing the position size.
